Responsibilities
INSURANCE REFERRAL CLERK RESPONSIBILITIES
- Run insurance eligibility and confirm patients’ insurance details
- Call insurances and use online tools to obtain insurance benefits
- Call insurances to check on claim status
- Update patient benefits under the patient's chart
- Goes over patient insurance data to determine if a pre-authorization or referral is needed
- Submit pre-authorization and/or referral request to insurances and primaries using predefined templates
- Communicates with patients to obtain updated insurance card and information
- Make certain all insurance information in system is current
- Cross-trained to check-out patients and collect co-pays, deductibles as necessary
- Send letters to patients regarding balances and payments due
- Create alerts/notes for unique insurances
- Take payments over the phone from patients calling in
- All other duties as assigned by office manager or director of operations

INSURANCE REFERRAL CLERK EXPERIENCE
- This is an entry level position
- Previous experience working with insurances highly desired but not required
- Previous experience in posting charges and receipt of payments desired but not required
- High school diploma or equivalent
